I don’t usually geek out over people/bands/etc, because we’re all ultimately just human. But this album (and AWKOHAWNOH, but especially White Noise) was so impactful for me in a very pivotal time of my life. So naturally, I had to attend PVRIS’ first show of their album’s 10 year anniversary tour. The year this album dropped, I was getting out of an emotionally abusive relationship, mourning the tragic loss of both an ex and very close friend in the same year, moving back home to NY and re-finding myself & embracing my individuality, starting my first business, and learning to love myself again… This album was the soundtrack to that whirlwind of a year. It also became such a staple in not just my music catelog, but also my life. I had the pleasure of seeing PVRIS live for the first time in 2014 (about a month after WN dropped), in a small divey venue in CT with maybe 50 other people in the room. And within the last decade, I’ve seen them countless times since, and watched the sea of people of all ages in the crowd get larger and larger with every passing year. To attend one of their concerts, especially as a queer woman, is truly a feeling unlike any other. Imagine your favorite Pride, but filled with a bit more black attire, just as many rainbow flags, not to mention friends and strangers embracing, crying, smiling, and singing together at the top of their lungs. @thisispvris, thank you for your art & representation. And to all my other artists out there, keep on creating. You never know who you’ll impact, and your art can help be the light even in the darkest of times. ????????
